Hoagie Salad

This Hoagie Salad is SO GOOD and one of my all-time favorite things to eat. I've had a few requests to post it, and I kept forgetting....so here goes!!

I don't use any real measurements when I make this, but I'll do my best to explain it! :)

I just buy one bag of just lettuce already shredded (you want just plain lettuce, not the kind with carrots or cabbage or anything else in it.)
A couple of white rolls... I buy them in a bag in the bakery at the grocery store (they're called "hard rolls" but they're actually soft)
about 3-4 small tomatoes (grape tomatoes cut in half)
1 small onion
1 can black olives (I buy the large pitted ones, then cut them in half)
colby and mozzarella cheese (I buy the average size blocks and then cut them into little thick squares) I do not use the entire block, probably half of it. When you make it, you'll see how much you think it'll need.
lunch meat (I use roast beef, turkey, and ham) I have the deli slice about 1/2-3/4 lbs. of each meat, and I ask them to cut it not super thin, but not super thick either.
For the dressing, I use "Submarine dressing" by Beano". I buy it near the deli at our grocery store. It comes in a little plastic bottle. This is what it looks like:

I serve the salad in a trifle dish (it looks so pretty served in this). I bought my trifle dish (it's clear) at Walmart for around $7.00...what a deal! I serve desserts in this too. It's definitely a good investment! :) Here's what it looks like:

So I chop the tomatoes, onion, black olives, cheese, and meat up. I chop the cheese and lunch meat in small, thick squares that are bite size. Also, I chop my tomatoes and onions small, not big chunks. I also pull the buns apart into small, bite size pieces. I start the salad with about 1/2 the bag of lettuce and about half of the other ingredients. I then put some of the dressing on. I don't measure. You'll just have to guess on this one. Then I mix that up. I then put the rest of the ingredients in, put more dressing on, and mix it up again. That way the salad on the bottom gets dressing on it...this makes a pretty big salad and you want it all mixed up nice. That's it....that's how you make a Hoagie Salad :)
One very important thing to remember, is to prepare this salad just before you are going to serve it, otherwise it'll get soggy.

  3. Reminds me of one of our salads at work (which would be even yummier if we had olives). Why did I never think of making this group sized?? Brilliant.
